Veronica Ortega

Location: Spain

Orginally from Cadiz, her love for the Mencía grape brought her to Bierzo in Galicia, Spain. Since then, Veronica has quickly become a reference winemaker in the region as she balances between the classic and natural expression of Bierzo. Veronica has worked in several places throughout Europe before settling in Valtuille de Abajo in 2012. here, she worked alongside Raúl Pérez in his winery where she made her first couple vintages until moving into her own winery.

Here vineyard are situated around the the small villages of Valtuille and Cobrana where she is making village- and single vineyard style wines. The total area now amounts to 5ha spread around about 20 small plots with many of the vines over 70 years old. The soil consists mostly of a mix of clay, sand, and slate. Her grapes are grown with organic farming and her wines are made as naturally as possible only adding minimal doses of sulphur when needed to avoid faults.

Bernado Estévez / Chanselus

Bernardo Estévez came into winemaking after having worked as a mechanic in the large city of Vigo on the Spanish west coast. He moved to Arnoia, a small town in southern Ribeiro close to the Portuguese border in 2009 to pursue making wine full time. Now, Bernardo farms 3ha of vines in five areas of Ribeiro – all by him self. The work is organic and biodynamic, applying treatments and infusions that he makes at home.

Judith Beck

Judith Beck makes wines in Gols in the Neusiedlersee region of Austria. It was Judith’s parents who founded the family domaine in 1976. The first wine from Judith’s hands came in 2001, and in 2004 she assumed full control of the winery with the help of her partner, Uli. This came after Judith gained international experience at wineries such as Chateau Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux, Braida in Piedmont and Errazuriz in Chile.

Domaine Vernus is located in the hillside town of Régnié-Durette in the heart of the region.
