Filippo Rizzo / Lamoresca

After 13 years of having a restaurant in Belgium, Filippo returned to this hometown in Sicily where he became a fulltime farmer and winemaker.

The agricultural farm “Lamoresca” is situated in the heart of Sicily, in the small town of San Michele di Ganzaria.
He started the farm in the year 2000 with a small olive grove, today he cultivates 25 hectares of vines, olive trees, prickly pears and other fruit trees. Lamoresca, is the only winery in this area southwest of Catania, which is a combination of compressed sandstone soils mixed with calcium and iron rich clay. The vines are a mix of Nero d’Avola, Grenache, Nerocapitano (Frappato) and Nerello Mascalese for the reds, and Vermentino Corso, for the white wine; all of which are worked with any use of chemicals.

The wines are naturally fermented without temperature control and only minimal sulfur is used if deemed absolutely necessary.
