A family affair that’s become synonymous with Abruzzo and reaching near mythical status among wine lovers. It was started by the eponymous Emidio in 1964, who, building on a family legacy dating back to 1889, explored the aging potential of Trebbiano and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Today, their unique clay and limestone terroir is today being translated by Chiara, Emidio’s granddaughter and head winemaker, into wines of exceptional quality across 17 hectares. Other members of the family manage various aspects of the business, ensuring the continuation of this proud Abruzzese winemaking legacy
Emidio Pepe founded his winery in 1964, after years of working alongside his father and grandfather, who had already been making wine at Casa Pepe since 1889. Long before anyone else, he had a strong belief in the great aging potential of Trebbiano and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Emidio dedicated all his energy to these two indigenous grape varieties, demonstrating their incredible potential and sharing it with the world.
Born in 1932, Emidio Pepe is a man of few words, yet he is a determined and attentive observer, with solid values and clear ideas. A tireless worker, he still personally cares for all his vineyards today, from pruning to harvest. Emidio carefully watches the signals from Nature, and with the special sensitivity developed over fifty years of harvests, he interprets these signals, guiding his vines and grapes into wine without ever interfering.
As an attentive custodian of his terroir, Emidio has always protected his soils and wines from chemicals. His approach is grounded in empirical work, built on a deep respect for traditions and the authentic, genuine expression of his wines.
Family-run business, with a history deeply rooted in our land, passed down through generations. Despite the changes and evolutions over time, they remain farmers at heart. While everything else transforms, their approach to both work and life has stayed constant. Today, under the proud watch of Emidio and Rosa, the main custodians of this tradition are Sofia and Daniela, along with their young granddaughters Chiara and Elisa.
Sofia is the guardian of the oenological knowledge, overseeing everything related to production and quality. Daniela takes care of the administration and financial aspects of the winery. Chiara, Daniela’s daughter, is in charge of the export markets, while Elisa, who just turned eighteen, is beginning to lend her support to the winery world.

René Rostaing founded the now legendary Domaine Rostaing back in 1971 during a period where most of the world had forgotten about the wavy hills of Côte-Rôtie in the northern part of the Rhône Valley. He started out with just under 1 hectare of vineyards, split between the Côte Blonde and La Landonne.
This is very much a family business with mom, pops, and the two children doing all the work in both vineyard, cellar, and in the office. Piero Busso is still at the helm of the domaine that he established in the early 1950s.
