One of Verduno's oldest estates, tracing back to the mid-1800s, Comm. G.B. Burlotto is today led by Fabio Alessandria, who keeps the winemaking resolutely traditional: whole-cluster fermentation, foot-treading in open-top vats, and long ageing in large old Slavonian oak. The result is Barolo of rare perfume and finesse, led by the celebrated Monvigliero, grown on the pale, sandy soils that make Verduno Nebbiolo so distinctive. The estate's Verduno Pelaverga, made from a local grape it helped save from near extinction, adds a lighter, peppery counterpoint.
