Legend has it that Emperor Charlemagne was passing by Corton in winter, saw the sunlight hitting the hill and commanded vines to be planted. Bonneau du Martray just so happens to hold centre stage on said hill, straddling the border between En Charlemagne and Le Charlemagne where the vines avoid the morning heat and enjoy optimal sunshine till sunset.

The A-grade team of the Domaine pursues a quest for quality by maintaining biodynamic principles and reducing production volumes. Their wines are transparent reflections of the terroir itself: the parcels on top give the wine a crystalline appearance, with floral and citrus fruit notes while the vines in the heart of the hill structure the wine. Down at the bottom of the hill, the parcels are richer in minerals, delivering the power of Charlemagne.
